Your Seventh Grader Will Learn...

Seventh graders are ready to learn and advance their academic development. 

In the seventh grade, your student will advance their reading and literature stills by focusing on strategies for reading historical fiction, mysteries, and informative text. Latin and Greek affixes are the main vocabulary studied at this time.

In the seventh grade, your student’s language arts stills will focus on informative writing and MLA citations. In the seventh grade, we will also work on preparing for the diocesan writing test

In the seventh grade, your student will learn about life science including cells and heredity, viruses, bacteria, forms plant life, forms of animal life including humans. What your student learns in the seventh grade is supported by investigation and/or dissection.

In the seventh grade, your student will expand their social studies knowledge by learning about the Eastern Hemisphere learning about the origins of early civilizations, including religions and cultures of Southwest Asia, Africa, Russia and the Far East.

The way we structure our math curriculum at St. Paul’s Catholic School is based on your student’s level of understanding. There are four main courses that are offered to fifth through eighth graders, and that means your sixth grader may be placed in any of these courses based on their understand and needs. Next to the course, is a grade proficiency level, but again your student can advance if needed.

  • Course 1 (6th grade): Students review decimal operations, are introduced to variables, expressions and solution of equations, use number theory as it applies to fractions, show equivalences in ratios, fractions, decimals, and percents, display data on multiple types of graphs and charts, explore geometric concepts including areas and volumes.
  • Course 2 (7th grade): Students review decimals and fractions, solve equations and simple inequalities, perform integral operations, problem solve using ratios, proportions, and percents, display data in many ways including coordinate graphs, explore geometry using exponents and square roots.
  • Pre-Algebra (8th grade): Students review basics operations with decimals, fractions and integers, solve equations and inequalities, apply basic strategies to algebraic fractions, ratios, and percents, solve and graph linear functions, apply algebraic strategies to solve geometric problems.
  • Algebra (8th grade, advanced): Students review solutions of basic equations and inequalities, simplify and factor monomial and polynomial expressions, solve and graph linear and quadratic functions, simplify radical expressions.

In the seventh grade, students in the seventh grade continue their education in Salvation History which was introduced in the fifth grade and take a deeper look at the seven sacraments as channels of God’s grace in their lives.

In the seventh grade, your student will focus their computer skills on computer history, basic computing, and introductions to spreadsheets (Excel). They will expand their knowledge of word processing, webpage production, desktop publishing, programming, and multimedia presentation. Laptop computers are available for use by the students in the classroom.

In addition, your seventh grader will learn Spanish as well as participate in music and physical education classes.

Our before and after school care is available to all St. Paul’s students from 6:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The cost is only $3.00 an hour.
